Ciprian Buzila

Ciprian Buzila is an Instructor of Art and Design History at James Madison University (JMU), joining in 2024. They hold a Ph.D. in History of Art and Architecture from Brown University, alongside a Master’s degree and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Art History and Furniture/Interior Design from institutions in Romania. Their professional experience includes roles as a specialist at Romania’s National Institute for Heritage and a scientific researcher at the University of Architecture in Bucharest.

Research interests focus on Modern Architecture, Design Theory, and Historic Preservation. They have received significant recognition through a Romanian government fellowship at the Romanian Academy in Rome and a Fulbright Junior Award at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning.

Buzila’s creative work includes painting, with notable artworks such as Sunflowers, Poppies, and The Warrior series, reflecting influences from historical artists like Van Gogh and Kandinsky. Their interdisciplinary approach bridges academic research with artistic practice.
