Assistant Professor · Autoimmune Neurology
University of Texas Southwestern Medical CenterAbout
Cindy Wang, M.D., serves as an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Neurology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, specializing in pediatric autoimmune neurology and demyelinating disorders including autoimmune encephalitis, multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder, and MOG antibody disease. She directs the Neuroimmunology Fellowship program and participates in Pediatric Neurology Residency committees at Children’s Health.
Dr. Wang completed her medical training at UT Southwestern Medical School (2007-2011), followed by Pediatrics internship (2011-2013) and Child Neurology residency (2013-2016) at the University of Michigan, culminating in an Autoimmune Neurology fellowship (2016-2018) as the James T. Lubin Fellow in Rare Neuroimmunological Diseases.
- Medical School: UT Southwestern Medical School (2007-2011)
- Fellowship: UT Southwestern Medical Center (2016-2018), Autoimmune Neurology
- Residency: University of Michigan Health System (2013-2016), Child Neurology
- Internship: University of Michigan Medical Center (2011-2013), Pediatrics
Her research focuses on antibody-negative autoimmune encephalitis diagnostics, long-term neuropsychological outcomes in pediatric autoimmune brain disorders, and clinical characterization of MOG antibody disease. She investigates treatment optimization for demyelinating conditions through translational studies bridging clinical observations and laboratory findings.
Dr. Wang's publications reveal consistent emphasis on pediatric neuroimmunology, with recent work analyzing MOG antibody disease phenotypes, transverse myelitis variants, and therapeutic approaches for neuromyelitis optica. Her scholarship demonstrates expertise in rare neuroimmune conditions affecting children, particularly in visualizing disease mechanisms through advanced imaging techniques.
Her scientific achievements include:
- James T. Lubin Fellow in Rare Neuroimmunological Diseases (2016-2018)
- Transverse Myelitis Association Summer Medical Student Research Grant (2008)
- UT Southwestern Undergraduate Research Programs Grant (2006)
- Stanford University Psi Chi Psychology Honors Society (2005-2006)
As Neuroimmunology Fellowship Coordinator, Dr. Wang mentors trainees in complex diagnostic workflows and treatment protocols for autoimmune neurological conditions. She serves on residency committees to advance scholarly development and participates in peer review for Neurology, Therapeutic Advances in Neurological Disorders, and Pediatric Neurology journals.
Based at Children's Medical Center of Dallas, she collaborates with multidisciplinary teams within the Peter O'Donnell Jr. Brain Institute to address neuroimmunological disorders. Her clinical work integrates with research initiatives through the American Academy of Neurology and Child Neurology Society networks.
