Cihan Butun is a Lecturer in Management Science and Operations at Loughborough University and Programme Lead for the MSc Supply Chain Management programme. He holds a PhD in Business and Management (2020) and an MSc in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (2014), both from Nottingham University Business School (NUBS), alongside a Master of Business Administration. His research focuses on optimizing terminal operations, green scheduling, and sustainability in logistics, leveraging heuristic methods and decision support systems.
Before joining Loughborough, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at Brunel University London (2020–2022) on the EU-funded PortForward project, contributing to sustainability-focused terminal operations. He also has extensive industrial experience in maritime shipping, managing shipping operations and chartering for Heidelberg Cement’s international trading division (2008–2013).
His work bridges academic and practical challenges in supply chain sustainability, logistics optimization, and maritime operations, with a focus on multi-criteria decision-making frameworks.
