Ciarán Mac an Bhaird is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Maynooth University, within the Faculty of Science & Engineering. He holds dual roles as Associate Professor and Director of the Mathematics Support Centre since 2016. He earned his PhD in Algebraic Number Theory in 2007 and has since specialized in mathematics education, focusing on interventions to improve student retention, engagement, and accessibility in mathematics learning.
His research spans mathematics education innovation, particularly in support services for at-risk students, technology-enhanced learning resources, and integrating historical perspectives into mathematics teaching. He has led national and international studies on mathematics support systems, including a major 2023 survey of U.S. learning centers and the TeRMEd framework for technology integration.
Key awards include the 2024 Lawson-Croft Award for Mathematics Support and multiple HiMEd Awards (2021–2023) for contributions to history in mathematics education.
