About
Ciara Nicole Chambers is a Lecturer and Head of Department in Film & Screen Media at University College Cork. Her research focuses on newsreels, amateur film, film history, and archival practices. She authored Ireland in the Newsreels (2012) and co-edited Researching Newsreels (2018). She chairs the Northern Ireland Moving Image Heritage & Archive Working Group and serves on multiple academic and industry councils.
Her recent grants include a €93k Irish Research Council project on film preservation history and an AHRC-funded Make Film History initiative. She co-produced the TG4 series Ireland in the Newsreels and is currently producing the play Souls, Shadows and Secrets.
Awards include the FIAT/IFTA Excellence Award (2021) for unlocking archives and Cork Convention Bureau’s Conference Ambassador (2022). She supervises PhD students and teaches on topics like film history, archival ethics, and media studies.
