About
Dr. Chuo Chen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center's School of Medicine. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, he received his BS degree from National Taiwan University in 1995, followed by a PhD from Harvard University in 2001 under the direction of Prof. Matthew D. Shair. After completing his doctoral studies, he worked as an HHMI postdoctoral research fellow under Prof. Stuart L. Schreiber at Harvard before joining the UT Southwestern faculty in 2004 as a Southwestern Medical Foundation Scholar in Biomedical Research, becoming Associate Professor in 2010.
Dr. Chen's research program is centered at the intersection of synthetic chemistry, chemical biology, and drug development. His laboratory focuses on creating novel chemical tools and therapeutic candidates targeting critical biological pathways, particularly the Wnt signaling pathway through Porcupine enzyme inhibitors. His work spans organic synthesis methodology development, natural product synthesis, and chemical probe creation for studying complex biological processes related to cancer and immune signaling.
Analysis of Dr. Chen's publication record reveals a strong focus on chemical biology approaches to understanding and modulating biological pathways. His work shows consistent expertise in organic synthesis with applications in cancer research, particularly targeting the Wnt signaling pathway through Porcupine inhibitors. More recently, his research has expanded into immune signaling pathways, particularly the cGAS-STING pathway, demonstrating the interdisciplinary nature of his chemical biology approach.
