Christos Stylianides is a Faculty Member in the Master of Public Health Programme, focusing on the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) Public Health in Disaster. He holds Visiting Professor roles at the London School of Economics’ Department of Health Policy and the Ruhr Universität Research School of Germany. Concurrently, he serves as a Member of the Hellenic Parliament (since 2023) and previously held ministerial roles, including Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy (2023–2025) and inaugural Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection (2021–2023). As European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management (2014–2019), he shaped the EU’s humanitarian response, coordinating during crises like the Ebola outbreak, earning him the title of the 'humanitarian face of Europe.' He is recognized as the architect of rescEU, a transformative initiative for European civil protection.
His career spans extensive public service, including roles as Government Spokesperson of the Republic of Cyprus (2013–2014 and 1998–1999) and Member of the Cypriot House of Representatives (2006–2013). Academically, he strengthens the Humanitarian-Development Nexus, aligning efforts with UN Sustainable Development Goals. He also served as EU Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief (2021).
