Christopher Wilhelm

Christopher Wilhelm serves as Professor of History at the College of Coastal Georgia, specializing in modern U.S. history, environmental history, and the history of the U.S. South with concentrated expertise in Everglades and marine preservation studies.

His academic credentials include a Ph.D. in American History from Florida State University (2010), an M.A. in History from Florida State University (2005), and a B.A. in History from Florida International University (2000).

Dr. Wilhelm's research centers on environmental history, particularly the transformation of the Everglades ecosystem, as evidenced by his forthcoming book manuscript From Swamp to Wetland examining Everglades National Park's creation. His recent scholarly output includes publications such as "Conservatives in the Everglades" (Journal of Southern History) and "For the Birds: Challenging Wilderness in the Everglades" (Journal of Environmental Studies and Sciences), demonstrating consistent focus on ecological policy and regional identity. Current research explores Florida's marine preservation history, recently presented as "Florida’s Aquatic Preserves" at the Florida Historical Society’s Annual Meeting.
