About
Dr. Christopher T. H. Liang serves as a Professor of Counseling Psychology in Lehigh University's College of Education, where his scholarship critically examines racism's psychological impact on people of color and develops trauma-responsive educational frameworks. His work bridges academic research with community practice to address systemic inequities in educational and mental health settings.
His academic foundation includes a Ph.D. and M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a B.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Dr. Liang's research program integrates multiple critical domains: the psychological consequences of racism (as evidenced in his edited book *The Cost of Racism for People of Color*), masculinity ideologies through his leadership in the Society for the Psychological Study of Men and Masculinities, and evidence-based interventions for trauma-affected youth. He pioneers race-centered trauma-responsive school models while evaluating college/career readiness programs for youth with emotional behavioral disorders, operating at the intersection of diversity science, prevention, and social-emotional development.
His scholarly impact is recognized through:
- APA Fellowship across three divisions (Counseling Psychology, Ethnic Minority Affairs, and Men and Masculinities)
- Citizen Psychologist designation for community-engaged trauma response work
As editor of the APA Division 45 Book Series on Cultural, Racial, and Ethnic Psychology, he shapes discourse in multicultural psychology. His community partnerships with school districts, health departments, and nonprofits translate research into trauma-informed services for vulnerable children and families.
