Christopher N.J. Roberts is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Minnesota Law School and affiliated sociology faculty. His scholarship examines human rights frameworks, legal history, and social policy. Awarded the 2015 Gordon Hirabayashi Book Award for The Contentious History of the International Bill of Human Rights, his research analyzes historical opposition to human rights norms.
Current projects investigate the separation of duties from rights in legal theory. His recent publications address racial justice, policing, and health equity, including studies on George Floyd's murder impacts and COVID-19 disparities. Expertise spans administrative law, citizenship, torts, and international human rights.
Roberts holds a J.D. from USC Gould School of Law and a Ph.D. in Public Policy/Sociology from the University of Michigan.
