Christopher Perkins is an Honorary Reader in Geography at the University of Manchester, where he has taught and researched since 1998. He leads the 'Geography with International Study' programme and chairs the International Cartographic Association's Maps and Society Research Commission (2007–2015). His research focuses on mapping technologies, social/cultural practices, performative aspects of contemporary mapping, and island studies. He collaborates with the Playful Mapping Collective and has contributed to projects like the Mapping Manchester Project and the ERC-funded Charting the Digital Project. Perkins supervises PhD students in areas such as playful mapping and ethnographies of mapping practices. He teaches courses including Visual Studies, Islands, and fieldwork in Crete. His editorial roles include Cartographica and the Cartographic Journal. He has presented widely, including 21 keynote speeches and 44 conference papers globally.
