Christopher McCann is a Lecturer of Acting at Purchase College, State University of New York, teaching in both the Acting Program and Film Department. With over 45 years of experience in theater, film, and television, he has performed in and directed works by renowned playwrights such as Sam Shepard, Caryl Churchill, and Tony Kushner. His film credits include roles in acclaimed films like Chronic (Cannes Best Screenplay 2015) and After School (Cannes Premiere 2008).
Education: BFA from New York University.
Research interests include modern and contemporary theater, avant-garde directing techniques, and the intersection of film and performance art. His work has spanned prestigious stages and festivals, including Lincoln Center and the Berlin Film Festival. Awards include the Drama Desk Nomination and OBIE Award for his role in The Lights (Howard Korder’s premiere at Lincoln Center).
Notable collaborations include directing Lucy Caldwell, Annie Baker, and Shakespearean works. He has also contributed to the development of new plays by authors like Tim Blake Nelson and Charles Mee.
