Dr Christopher Martin is a Senior Lecturer in War Studies and Contemporary Security at the University of Hull, where he has been teaching since 2005. He is affiliated with multiple research centers including the McCoubrey Centre for International Law, Centre for Security Studies, Blaydes Maritime Centre, Centre for Government, Centre for War Studies, and Centre for Conservatism within the Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Education.
His research focuses on naval warfare, maritime security, and defense studies, with particular expertise in British naval history and strategy. Dr Martin's work examines historical naval operations, contemporary maritime power dynamics, and the strategic implications of naval capabilities for national security. His research demonstrates consistent engagement with both historical naval strategy and modern maritime security challenges.
Dr Martin has published extensively on naval history and strategy, with recent publications analyzing feminist perspectives on peacebuilding, US military casualty aversion, and Franco-British naval cooperation. His 2016 book The UK as a medium maritime power in the 21st century: Logistics for influence was shortlisted for the UK Maritime Foundation's Mountbatten Award. His scholarly output spans historical analysis of Admiral Fisher's reforms to contemporary assessments of UK defense policy.
