About
Dr. Christopher MacRaild is a Research Fellow in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Monash University, affiliated with the Medicinal Chemistry department and the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His research focuses on malaria vaccine development, antiparasitic drug discovery, and proteomic analysis of Plasmodium falciparum. He contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being (SDG 3) through malaria and infectious disease research.
Key projects include investigations into malaria vaccine candidates such as Merozoite Surface Protein 2 (MSP2) and structural-based drug design targeting parasite enzymes like PfA-M17 aminopeptidase. Collaborations span global institutions, with funding from NHMRC and Australian government agencies. MacRaild has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles, emphasizing antimalarial strategies, proteomics, and drug repurposing for diseases like COVID-19. He has held roles as a Chief Investigator in major research grants and contributed to government health committee submissions.
His work integrates structural biology, immunology, and medicinal chemistry to address challenges in antiparasitic therapies and vaccine design, with a focus on conserved epitopes, protein dynamics, and novel drug targets.
