About
Christopher M. Johns-Krull is a Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Rice University, where he has served since 2001. He also holds the Chair for the On-Campus Observatory. His research focuses on astrophysics, particularly the study of young stars, magnetic fields, and solar flares.
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Astrophysics (1994), University of California, Berkeley
- M.A. in Astrophysics (1991), University of California, Berkeley
- B.S. and B.A. (1989), University of Texas at Austin
His work on T Tauri stars investigates how strong stellar magnetic fields interact with accretion disks, influencing planetary system formation. He pioneered infrared Zeeman broadening and circular polarization measurements to study these fields. He has also contributed to understanding solar flares through the HESSI satellite project.
Scientific Awards:
- W.J. McDonald Fellow (1994–1996)
