Christopher Lynch

Dr. Christopher Lynch is Professor of Political Science and Department Head at Missouri State University’s Reynolds College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities. His academic career spans institutions like Boston College, the University of Dallas, the University of Chicago, and Carthage College. He also served as a senior adviser in the U.S. Department of State.

His research focuses on Political Philosophy, Politics and Literature, and Strategic Thought and National Security. He is currently working on a translation of Machiavelli’s poems and a book exploring alternatives to Machiavelli’s theories of war and peace.

Dr. Lynch has published books including Machiavelli’s Art of War (University of Chicago Press, 2003) and Principle and Prudence in Western Political Thought (SUNY Press, 2016). His recent work Machiavelli on War (Cornell University Press, 2023) analyzes Machiavelli’s contributions to strategic theory.

He is affiliated with Missouri State University’s Political Science and Philosophy Department and has held visiting roles at institutions like the University of Chicago.
