Christopher L. Shaffer, PharmD, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science. He serves as Interim Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Director of the Pharmacogenetics Program in the Department of Pediatrics (UNMC College of Medicine), and Director of the Pediatric Clinical Pharmacology Program under the Child Health Research Institute (CHRI).

His research focuses on translating pediatric pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, and pharmacogenomic studies into clinical practice. As a collaborator across UNMC Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine, Children’s Hospital & Medical Center, and CHRI, he optimizes medication therapy for pediatric patients through the Pediatric Pharmacology Research Unit (PPRU) and Clinical Pharmacology Consult Service. The PPRU develops non-traditional drug assays and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic models, while the Consult Service partners with UNMC Genetic Medicine in the Pharmacogenetics Clinic to advance personalized medicine.
Teaching activities include coordinating the Pharmacogenomics and Pediatrics course and lecturing in Pharmacotherapy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and other team-taught classes across the UNMC campus.
