About
Christopher Johnson is an Associate Professor with joint appointments in the Women and Gender Studies Institute and Department of History at the University of Toronto. His office is located in Wilson Hall, New College, Room 2030. An interdisciplinary scholar of Black diasporas, his work examines 20th-21st century Black feminisms, freedom movements, and transnational connections across the Atlantic world.
His research integrates:
- Black diaspora studies and transnational frameworks
- Intersections of gender, sexuality, and migration
- Feminist theory and social movement histories
- Decolonial perspectives on empire and indigeneity
He is currently completing a book exploring gender/sexual politics within Black liberation movements, analyzing how migration, kinship, and desire shaped revolutionary networks across the Atlantic.
