About
Christopher J. Kiely is the Harold B. Chambers Senior Professor at Lehigh University, holding joint appointments in the departments of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering. He serves as Director of the Materials Characterization Facility and previously led the Lehigh Microscopy Schools from 2004 to 2024. His work focuses on advanced electron microscopy techniques for nanoscale materials analysis, including catalysts, nanoparticles, and quantum dots.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Microstructural Physics, Bristol University
- B.Sc. in Chemical Physics, Bristol University
Research Interests: Kiely specializes in structural and compositional characterization of nanomaterials using aberration-corrected analytical electron microscopy (AC-AEM), STEM XEDS/EELS spectrum imaging, and electron diffraction. His research spans catalyst design, nanoparticle assembly, carbonaceous materials, and biomineralization processes. He leads an internationally recognized group with strong collaborations, notably with the Cardiff Catalysis Institute (UK).
Publications & Impact: With over 350 journal papers and 220 conference contributions, his work has been highlighted through numerous invited presentations globally. His microscopy expertise is foundational to materials science and engineering.
