Christopher J Bell

Christopher J Bell is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the Jackson School of Geosciences, The University of Texas at Austin. He holds the John A. Wilson Professorship in Vertebrate Paleontology. His research focuses on Quaternary vertebrate faunal dynamics, including evolutionary patterns, biodiversity, and responses to climate change. Key areas include Pleistocene North American arvicoline rodent biochronology and the anatomy/systematics of extant and fossil turtles and squamate reptiles.

Dr. Bell’s work integrates paleontological and ecological approaches to understand long-term biotic responses to environmental shifts. He maintains active research programs in vertebrate paleontology and herpetology, with a focus on North American and global datasets.
