Christopher Fink is a Professor of English and Department Chair at Beloit College. He also serves as Editor of the Beloit Fiction Journal and directs the Mackey program, which brings prominent writers to campus annually. His academic roles include teaching creative writing, environmental journalism, and literature courses, including a summer ENVS Capstone titled Writing Wilderness in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
Education: BA in English from Augustana College, PhD in English from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Research interests focus on storytelling, the short story form, environmental/nature writing, literary editing, and the works of John Steinbeck and poet Lorine Niedecker. He explores themes of Wilderness in the Anthropocene, blending personal narrative with ecological concerns. Additionally, he produces monthly radio essays for Northern Public Radio about the intersection of self and nature.
Teaching emphasizes connecting students to their creative voices while preparing them for professional publishing roles. He mentors through the Beloit Fiction Journal and hosts visiting writers and student readings. His publications include two fiction books: Farmer’s Almanac (2013) and Add This to the List of Things That You Are (2019).
