About
Christopher Eichler serves as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Physics within the Faculty of Science at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU), holding the Chair of Experimental Physics. He joined FAU as a new faculty member during the 2023/2024 academic year, as confirmed by a presidential visit in January 2024, and remains actively engaged in quantum research initiatives through the summer semester of 2025.
Professor Eichler's research centers on advancing practical quantum computing systems, with specific focus on quantum electronics and lattice surgery techniques for error correction. His work investigates how quantum computers could potentially double current supercomputing capabilities, as highlighted in his December 2023 lecture "Quantenelektronik – jetzt aber elektrisch" (Quantum Electronics – Now Electrically) and April 2025 presentation "Realizing Lattice Surgery..." for the FAU LMQ Talk series.
Eichler leads a research consortium that secured approximately 3 million euros in funding from the Free State of Bavaria. He actively contributes to FAU's quantum science outreach through the "MQV-Einblicke" lecture series celebrating 100 years of quantum research and participates in the International Year of Quantum Sciences and Technologies initiatives.
