Christopher Dvorak, MD is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine, specializing in pediatric hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) and supportive care. He serves as Chair of the Children's Oncology Group (COG) Cancer Control & Supportive Care Committee and previously chaired the Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant Consortium's (PBMTC) Supportive Care Strategy Group.
His research focuses on reducing treatment-related morbidity through clinical trials targeting infections, lung injury, and transplant complications. Current work examines pharmacokinetic relationships in conditioning regimens, microbiome interactions in lung injury, and novel cellular therapies. His team has led pivotal phase III trials including COG protocol ACCL1131 (antifungal prophylaxis) and ASCT1221 (conditioning regimens for JMML).
- National Principal Investigator: COG ACCL1131, ASCT1221
- National Vice-Chair: COG ACCL1034, PBMTC SUP1601
His recent publications demonstrate expertise in transplant-associated thrombotic microangiopathy, sinusoidal obstructive syndrome, and pulmonary complications. The work spans molecular pathogenesis, clinical trial design, and epidemiological studies across multiple international consortia including COG, PBMTC, and Primary Immune Deficiency Treatment Consortium (PIDTC).
- Regents Scholar, UC San Diego (1990-1994)
- Arline & Pete Harman Pediatric Fellow (2002-2005)
- Pediatric Faculty Leadership Award, UCSF (2011)
Dvorak directs NIH-funded research (R24AI184316, U54AI082973) through the PIDTC, focusing on inborn errors of immunity. His clinical trials portfolio addresses critical gaps in infection prevention, graft-versus-host disease management, and immune reconstitution strategies for pediatric transplant recipients.
