Christopher Conway

Dr. Christopher B. Conway is a Professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages at The University of Texas at Arlington. His academic roles include serving on numerous committees such as the College of Liberal Arts Tenure and Promotion Committee, and he has led initiatives like the Center for Greater Southwestern Studies. He holds a PhD in Literature from the University of California, San Diego, with earlier degrees from UC San Diego and UC Santa Cruz.

His research focuses on comparative literature, comics studies, and the cultural history of the American West. Notable works include Heroes of the Borderlands: The Western in Mexican Film, Comics, and Music and co-editing The Comic Book Western: New Perspectives on a Global Genre, which won the 2023 Ray and Pat Browne Award. His scholarship explores intersections of genre fiction, border studies, and transnational cultural production.

Teaching interests span Latin American literature, world literature, and cultural studies. He has presented globally on topics ranging from Mexican comic book westerns to 19th-century cultural history. His academic service includes roles on tenure committees, graduate programs, and interdisciplinary initiatives like the IDEAS Center.
