Christopher Colby is a Tutor at Jesus College, University of Oxford, with a DPhil in Classical Languages and Literature. His research focuses on the intersection of music (μουσική) and law (νόμος) in 7th to 5th century B.C. Greek poetry, analyzing rhythmic patterns in choral lyric to trace the evolution of musical forms. He teaches tragedy, Greek language, and lyric, and runs the Homeric Reading Group within the Classics Faculty.
Education: DPhil in Classical Languages and Literature (Oxford).
Research interests include ancient aesthetics, philosophy, pedagogy, and performance practices. He participates in Ancient Music at Oxford (AMO) and performs with the Oxford University Orchestra. His work bridges classical studies with interdisciplinary perspectives on music and legal history.
