Christopher Bowdler is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Oxford and a Fellow and Tutor in Economics at Oriel College. He serves as Associate Head (Undergraduate Students) and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Economics. His research focuses on applied macroeconomics, monetary policy transmission, banking systems, and international finance. He has held editorial roles at the Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics and the Oxford Review of Economic Policy, and previously served as Secretary to the Board of the Review of Economic Studies (2012–2017).
Dr. Bowdler teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in macroeconomic theory, policy, and applied monetary economics. He has supervised numerous graduate students and consulted for the European Central Bank and private sector organizations. His academic qualifications include a DPhil from the University of Oxford (2003), an MPhil from Nuffield College (2001), and a First-Class BA in Economics from the University of Cambridge (1999).
His research interests span monetary policy shocks, banking system impacts, and international differences in labor market institutions. He has received awards including the Teaching Excellence Award (2008) and a British Academy Post-doctoral Fellowship (2003–2006). His work frequently addresses policy-relevant questions such as the effects of unconventional monetary policies and debt management strategies.
