Christopher Bain is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at Monash University and The Alfred Hospital, specializing in anaesthesia and perioperative medicine. He holds a medical degree from The University of Otago (1996) and completed anaesthesia training at The Alfred Hospital, focusing on cardiothoracic anaesthesia. His roles include lecturer in perioperative medicine, council member of the Victorian Consultative Council on Anaesthetic Mortality and Morbidity (VCCAMM), and coordinator of the Monash University Master of Medicine unit POM5003.
His research focuses on perioperative genomics, aiming to improve patient outcomes through genomic technology. He leads a project investigating the inflammatory response to surgery funded by ANZCA, collaborating with The Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute. Key interests include cardiothoracic surgery, transoesophageal echocardiography, and anaesthesia safety.
Recent publications explore postoperative inflammation, corticosteroid effects, and atrial fibrillation treatment guidelines. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being (SDG 3).
