Christophe Tzourio

Christophe Tzourio is a Professor of Epidemiology and hospital practitioner at the CHU, affiliated with the University of Bordeaux. He is internationally recognized for his work in the epidemiology of neurological diseases and population health, with over 450 publications and 45,000 citations in leading journals such as Nature and The Lancet.

His research is structured around two main themes: neurological diseases—particularly stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, and the effects of hypertension on brain health—and student health through the i-Share study, the largest longitudinal cohort of young people in Europe (21,000 participants). This project is supported by the Student Health Lab, a multidisciplinary research platform exploring mental and brain health using web and mobile technologies.

The recent publications highlight his focus on genetic and structural brain factors in neurodegeneration, vascular aging, and migraine. His work bridges clinical neurology and public health epidemiology, emphasizing preventive strategies and digital health tools.
