Christofer Bester

Christofer Bester serves as an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the UWA Medical School and UWA Centre for Ear Science, The University of Western Australia. Concurrently, he holds Clinical Research Fellow positions at the University of Melbourne (since March 2016) and Ear Science Institute Australia (since October 2022).

He earned his PhD in Auditory Neurophysiology from the University of Western Australia (2012-2016), with doctoral research focused on Mechanisms of auditory attention in normal and hearing impaired listeners.

Dr. Bester's research centers on cochlear electrophysiology, electrocochleography, and cochlear implant translation, directly impacting clinical practices at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals in health innovation, emphasizing hearing preservation and surgical feedback systems.

His 2023-2024 publications reveal a dual trajectory: advancing otolaryngology through biomarker discovery for residual hearing, and pioneering machine learning applications for time-series medical data analysis. This interdisciplinary approach bridges clinical electrophysiology with AI-driven predictive modeling.

Currently leading the Cochlear Ltd-funded project CLTD5764 (2025-2026) on remote care for implant recipients, he builds on prior industry collaboration for CLT 5667 – Cochlear's largest clinical investigation.
