Dr Christine Barrett is an Honorary Lecturer in the Division of Global Public Health, Department of Health Sciences, at Brunel University’s College of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences. She transitioned to academia after a 25-year career in clinical development at GlaxoSmithKline, where she served as Clinical Development Director in immuno-inflammation. Dr Barrett also worked as an immunisation advisor for Save the Children in Nigeria and volunteered in healthcare in The Gambia.

Her research spans immunology, autoimmune diseases, and public health. Early work focused on T-cell regulation in nephritis, B-cell phenotypes in lupus, and anti-PLA2R autoantibodies in membranous nephropathy. More recently, she studied preventative health behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic and Alzheimer’s disease perceptions across ethnic groups. She has supported Brunel students in dissertation supervision and paper authorship.
Dr Barrett’s 15 most recent publications reflect her expertise in immunology, nephrology, clinical pharmacology, and public health. Her work includes clinical trials on belimumab, PDE4 inhibitors, and monoclonal antibody therapies, alongside cross-sectional studies on pandemic health practices and Alzheimer’s awareness.
She contributes to teaching through lectures in Health Promotion, Implementing Change, Health Policy, and Social Justice modules, as well as guest lecturing in Journal Club. Her career also includes international training in clinical trials for healthcare personnel and mentorship for refugee teenagers.
