Christina Van Wingerden

Christina Van Wingerden, Ph.D., M.Ed., serves as the Academic Program Director, Field Studies Coordinator, and Instructor for the Human Services Program at Western Washington University’s Woodring College of Education. Her roles include overseeing academic programs, coordinating internships, and teaching. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Technology and Learning Design from Simon Fraser University, with research focused on inclusion, sense of belonging, and the role of learning management systems in fostering collaboration.

Her program combines academic coursework with field experiences, preparing students for careers in human services through internships. The Human Services major offers three tracks: in-person (Bellingham), hybrid (Everett), and fully online. Van Wingerden is committed to community partnerships, emphasizing high employment rates post-graduation (95%+).

Her current research explores sense of belonging among doctoral students and isolation, collaborating with the University of Victoria. She advocates for student empowerment and community advocacy through her teaching and program leadership.
