About
Christina Teipen is a Professor of Social Sciences with a focus on economic sociology at the Berlin School of Economics and Law since April 2011. Previously, she held research positions at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) and other institutions. Her research centers on labour and industrial sociology, comparative institutional analysis, and transnational value chains, with a particular emphasis on the interplay between macro-institutional frameworks and micro-level employment dynamics.
Her work explores global value chains across sectors like the automotive industry, digital game development, and IT services, analyzing how national institutional contexts and union power influence outcomes in the Global South. She has co-authored extensive publications in journals such as the European Journal of Economics and Economic Policies, Journal of Labor and Society, and WSI-Mitteilungen, addressing themes like social upgrading, economic integration, and pandemic-driven labor restructuring.
Teipen’s recent publications (2023–2025) highlight trends in post-pandemic industrial dynamics, comparative analysis of Global South economies, and institutional impacts on labor conditions. Her 2019 monograph provides a comprehensive economic-sociological analysis of digital game developers across Germany, Sweden, and Poland, linking creative industries to national institutional frameworks.
