Christina Gathmann is a full Professor at the University of Heidelberg since 2011 and currently serves as Head of the Labour Market Department at LISER (Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research). She earned her PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago under Nobel laureates James J. Heckman and Gary S. Becker.

Her research focuses on two core themes: (1) human capital development across the life cycle, including skill depreciation and digital transformation impacts, and (2) policy evaluation of immigration, education, family, and health policies. She pioneered work on task-specific human capital and has demonstrated how citizenship accelerates immigrant integration.
Recent projects include the EU-funded SkiLMeeT (skills for green/digital transition), D4H: Data Science of Digital History, and POLUX21 (Luxembourg population census analysis). Her work appears in top journals like the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics and Journal of Labor Economics.
