Christina Beatty is a Professor of Applied Economic Geography at the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR), Sheffield Hallam University. She holds a BSc (Hons) and MPhil, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and the Institute of Employability Professionals (FIEP). Her work focuses on socio-economic policy impacts, particularly welfare reform, labour markets, and housing policy in older industrial areas, former coalfields, and seaside towns. She has led major evaluations including the Review of Supported Housing for the Department of Levelling Up and a decade-long New Deal for Communities study.
Research interests include spatial analysis of economic inactivity, hidden unemployment, and regional productivity disparities. She has advised on projects such as Sheffield's Skills Strategy and the Health Led Employment Trial. Her recent work addresses post-pandemic recovery in industrial regions and the uneven consequences of national policies.
