Christina Baer

Christina Baer is Associate Professor of Microbiology and Director of the Sanderson Center for Optics Experimentation (SCOPE) at UMass Chan Medical School. Her research examines Mycobacterium tuberculosis physiology and host interactions using advanced imaging technologies.

Education includes: PhD in Biophysics (UC Berkeley), BA in Physics & English (Wellesley College).

Research focuses on TB pathogenesis mechanisms, particularly cell wall synthesis regulation, secretion systems, and granuloma formation. Recent work identifies novel host-pathogen interaction points and immune evasion tactics.

Publications demonstrate consistent themes in bacterial adaptation strategies, antimicrobial resistance pathways, and innovative imaging applications for infection biology. Recent articles reflect expanded work in viral immunology and autoimmune mechanisms.
