Christianne Micallef

Dr. Christianne Micallef is an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Cambridge's School of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Pharmacology. She serves as a Principal Pharmacist in Infection Management at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals, since January 2013, alongside roles as an independent consultant. Her career spans academic, national, and hospital positions in Malta and England. She holds a B.Pharm. (Hons) from Malta, an MPhil in Clinical Bacteriology (Malta), and a PhD in Clinical Bacteriology (London).

Her research focuses on antimicrobial stewardship, with specific interests in antibiotic resistance, infection management, and clinical bacteriology. Key collaborations and projects include the Antifungal Stewardship Project funded by Pfizer (2021), the Commonwealth Partnership for Antimicrobial Stewardship grant (2019), and the NIHR-funded Antibiotics in Care Homes Project (2013–2014). She has also led studies on diagnostic-driven treatments for Aspergillus infections and carbapenem-sparing antibiotic strategies.

Dr. Micallef actively participates in conferences, presenting posters at the BSAC Spring Meeting (2022), Federation of Infection Societies conferences (2020–2021), and the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (2021).

Her work emphasizes bridging clinical practice and academic research, with contributions to understanding hospital pharmacists' roles in antimicrobial management and optimizing treatment strategies for immunocompromised patients.
