Christiane Wendehorst serves as Professor of Civil Law at the University of Vienna since 2008, concurrently holding pivotal roles including President of the European Law Institute (ELI), Chair of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) Academy Council, and Co-Head of the Department of Innovation and Digitalisation in Law. She additionally sits on the Managing Board of the Austrian Jurists’ Association (ÖJT) and the Austrian Federal Chancellery's Bioethics Committee.
Her research critically examines civil law frameworks in digital contexts, with concentrated expertise in Data Ethics, Artificial Intelligence Law, and Innovation in Legal Systems. This manifests through high-impact policy engagement including co-chairing Germany's 2018-2019 Data Ethics Commission and leading the transatlantic 'Principles for a Data Economy' project.
Her scholarly recognition includes election to three prestigious bodies:
