Christian Thuselt

Christian Thuselt, PhD is an Associated Researcher at the Institute of Political Science, specifically at the Chair of Middle East Politics and Society within the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg. He joined this position in 2025, continuing his long-standing engagement with Middle Eastern political studies.

Dr. Thuselt's research focuses on Middle Eastern politics with particular expertise in Lebanese political parties, stemming from his doctoral work completed at the University of Roskilde in 2018 under the supervision of Sune Haugbolle. His academic journey reflects a deep commitment to understanding political systems and societal structures in the Arab world, with publications through Routledge indicating scholarly recognition of his work.

As part of FAU's research ecosystem, Dr. Thuselt contributes to the university's key research priority of 'Understanding norms, cultural practices and social formations,' particularly through interdisciplinary work relevant to the Center for Euro-Oriental Studies which connects scholars across multiple faculties studying Middle Eastern and Islamic topics.

His previous appointments include research assistant at the Orient-Institut Beirut (2021-2025) and lecturer/research assistant positions at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg (2009-2021), demonstrating sustained engagement with Middle Eastern political studies across multiple institutional contexts in Germany and Lebanon.
