Christian Thomann is an Associate Professor of Corporate Finance at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Swedish House of Finance (SHoF). He is affiliated with the Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets (MISUM) and Digital Futures at KTH. His research focuses on corporate responses to environmental policies, particularly carbon taxation, technical change in industries, and risk management strategies. Previously, he served as Senior Advisor at the Swedish Ministry of Finance (2010–2022) and Vice Chair of the OECD’s Tax Policy Analysis Working Party (2017–2021).
Thomann’s research examines how carbon pricing influences firm emissions and R&D investments, with notable contributions to the Review of Financial Studies and Journal of Corporate Finance. His work highlights the link between emissions taxes and innovation in polluting industries, emphasizing policy design for effective decarbonization. He collaborates with institutions like the City of Stockholm’s captive insurance company St Erik to mitigate property risks.
His current projects are funded by grants from the Swedish Research Council, Wallenberg Foundations, and Trafikverket. Thomann’s interdisciplinary approach bridges corporate finance, environmental economics, and public policy, addressing global challenges such as climate change and regulatory effectiveness.
