Christian Sebastian Loh

Christian Sebastian Loh is a Professor of Learning System Design & Technology at Southern Illinois University within the Organizational Learning, Innovation and Development program. He directs the Virtual Environment Lab established through a Defense University Research Instrument Program grant from the Army Research Office and serves as academic advisor for Master's concentrations in Online Learning and Learning and Performance Technology.

His research centers on performance analytics for serious games and virtual reality, examining decision-making and performance disparities between experts and novices while developing analytics visualization tools. Notable contributions include Information Trails for telemetric performance measurement and the Performance Tracing Report Assistant (PeTRA) for gameplay data-driven performance improvement.

Dr. Loh's 2015 foundational work "Serious Games Analytics" established performance measurement methodologies that now evolve through AI integration, as evidenced by his current editorial leadership of an upcoming Springer volume exploring machine learning and large language models in serious games.

He has secured significant research funding from the Army Research Office and advises graduate students in learning technology specializations. As director of the Virtual Environment Lab, he leads research in virtual reality applications for training and performance enhancement.

Professional leadership includes Past Presidency of AECT's Multimedia Production Division, academic judging for I/ITSEC's Serious Games Showcase and Challenges, and editorial board membership for three international journals.
