About
Dr Christian Schweizer is an Irish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow (2023–2025) at the University of Galway, affiliated with the School of Languages, Literatures & Cultures within the College of Arts, Social Sciences, & Celtic Studies. His research focuses on early medieval Irish scholar Dicuil, analyzing his Latin texts and their impact on Carolingian intellectual history.
His project, 'Dicuil—an Irish and Carolingian Universalist and his Intellectual Legacy (DICUIL)', examines Dicuil’s understudied works, including Epistula censuum, De prima syllaba, and his poetic epilogue to Priscian’s Partitiones. This work aims to redefine understanding of early Irish scholarship’s role in the Carolingian Renaissance.
Mentored by Dr Pádraic Moran, Schweizer’s research combines textual analysis, digital humanities, and historical linguistics. His prior doctoral work involved editing and analyzing Dicuil’s De cursu solis lunaeque, a foundational text for this current project.
