About
Prof. Dr. Christian Merten is a faculty member at the Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Ruhr University Bochum, where he leads the Organic Chemistry II research group. His work focuses on stereochemistry and chiroptical spectroscopy using vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectroscopy to investigate molecular chirality in asymmetric catalysis, chiral recognition, and solute-solvent interactions.
His research includes developing novel sampling techniques like matrix isolation VCD and cryo-solution VCD. He has received multiple prestigious awards, including the Heisenberg Fellowship from the DFG and the Plus-3 Perspective Programme from the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation.
- Feodor-Lynen Postdoctoral Fellowship
- Liebig Fellowship
- Global Young Faculty V Membership
- Plus-3 Perspective Programme
- Heisenberg Fellowship
His group actively involves Bachelor's and Master's students in interdisciplinary research, collaborating with institutions such as the International Graduate School of Neuroscience and RESOLV Cluster of Excellence.
