Christian Havel

Christian Havel is a Lecturer for Guitar & Ensemble and Head of the Institute for String Instruments at the Faculty of Music Education, JAM MUSIC LAB Private University for Jazz and Popular Music Vienna. He concurrently holds the position of Univ.-Prof. at the Music and Art University Vienna (MUK) and Art University Graz (KUG). His pedagogical career spans over three decades with teaching roles at multiple institutions since 1990.

• Education: Artistic/pedagogical training at Vienna Conservatory (1993-2018), Prayner Conservatory, Music and Art University Vienna (2012-2021), and Art University Graz (2014-2021).

Research interests focus on jazz guitar pedagogy, ensemble dynamics, improvisation methodologies, and ear training techniques. His work bridges traditional music education with contemporary performance practices.

Notable contributions include 7 CD productions as bandleader (1993-2018), including collaborations in New York with international artists, and founding the American Quartet. He has performed across Europe, Iran, Mexico, and the USA.

• Recognition: 2002 nomination for the prestigious „Hans Koller Preis“.

Teaching extends beyond academia through workshops in Scheibbs, Zeilern, Hinterstoder, and Poysdorf. His pedagogical approach emphasizes practical ensemble work and cross-cultural musical collaboration.
