Christian Eggeling

Christian Eggeling serves as W3 Professor of Super-resolution Microscopy and Director of the Institute of Applied Optics and Biophysics at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, while also leading the Biophysical Imaging Department at the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technologies. His dual institutional affiliation positions him at the forefront of biophotonics research in Jena.

His research centers on super-resolution optical microscopy development and application to cellular membrane systems, with particular expertise in nanoscale diffusion dynamics, lipid raft organization, and receptor-lipid interactions. He pioneers STED-FCS techniques to visualize molecular behavior in live cells beyond diffraction limits, bridging biophysics, cell biology, and advanced microscopy.
