Christian Candrian is a Full Professor at the University of Lugano (USI), Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, and holds roles as Head of the Traumatology and Orthopaedics Unit at Ospedale Regionale di Lugano (Civico e Italiano) and Consultant for Orthopaedic Surgery at Ospedale Regionale di Locarno. He obtained his Master's in Medicine from the University of Zürich (1998), specialization in Surgery (2004), and Orthopaedics (2007). He earned the Venia docendi from the University of Basel in 2015 and became a Full Professor at USI in 2024. He is affiliated with the Euler Institute (EUL) and lectures at technical schools in Lugano.
His research focuses on ortho-trauma and regenerative medicine, founding the 'Tissue Engineering of the Locomotor System' laboratory in southern Switzerland and the Clinical Research Group at Ospedale Regionale di Lugano. He is actively involved in professional societies such as the Swiss Society of Orthopaedics (SGO), European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT), and serves as Swiss delegate to EFORT's Trauma Educational Committee.
He has published over 50 papers in high-impact journals like AJSM, KSSTA, and Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews. His clinical practice covers surgical and non-surgical treatments for musculoskeletal disorders, including joint replacements, trauma management, and minimally invasive techniques.
