About
Dr. Christian Brandes is a Researcher and Lecturer at the Department of Geology, Leibniz University Hannover. His affiliations include roles as Deputy BAföG Representative, Member of the M.Sc. Geosciences Selection Committee, and Representative for Scientific Staff. He has held a permanent research position since 2006 following a PhD (2006) and Diploma (2002) in Geology/Paleontology from Leibniz University Hannover.
Research focuses on sedimentary basin evolution, tectono-sedimentary interactions, fold-and-thrust belts, and deep-water turbidite systems. His work integrates field studies, numerical modeling, and geophysical data to explore topics like glacial isostasy, fault activity, and seismic hazard assessment.
Recent publications address glacial forebulge impacts on sea-level changes, fault kinematics in Denmark, and Arctic Canada tectonics. He leads projects on fault systems in Germany, Canada, and the Alps, funded by DFG and industry collaborations.
Scientific achievements include a Lower Saxony graduate scholarship and contributions to understanding glacially induced faults. Active in education, he advises students and teaches courses in sedimentology and structural geology through Stud.IP.
