Christian Apfelbacher

Prof. Dr. Christian Apfelbacher is the Director of the Institute for Social Medicine and Health Systems Research at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg's Faculty of Medicine. His roles include leadership in DFG research groups (e.g., HELICAP), coordination of the Autonomy in Old Age research network, and membership in key organizations such as the German Society for Social Medicine and Prevention (DGSMP). He holds editorial positions in journals like the British Journal of Dermatology (Outcomes Research Section Editor) and ZEFQ (Health Services Research Section Editor).

His expertise spans epidemiology, healthcare quality, and pandemic research. He actively contributes to medical education through roles at the Institute for Medical and Pharmaceutical Examination Questions (IMPP) and the Faculty Council. His advisory roles include the Robert Koch Institute's Diabetes Surveillance Board and the TREAT Germany initiative for atopic eczema treatment.
