Chris West

Chris West is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Physics at Carleton College's Department of Physics and Astronomy, joining in Fall 2023. His research focuses on astrophysical nucleosynthetic processes, stellar evolution, galactic chemical evolution, and quantum mechanics, combining theoretical models with computational simulations to study isotope formation from the Big Bang. He is committed to improving educational outcomes for underrepresented students in physics.

Education: PhD in Physics from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Affiliations: Member of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Astrophysics, American Physical Society, and American Association of Physics Teachers.

Teaching: Teaches courses such as Introduction to Physics: Newtonian Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics, and Advanced Electricity and Magnetism. Upcoming courses include Analytical and Computational Mechanics and A Survey of Cosmology.
