Chris Rojek

Chris Rojek is Professor of Sociology at City, University of London, specializing in cultural sociology, celebrity studies, and leisure theory. He holds a PhD from the University of Glasgow and has held professorships at Staffordshire University, Nottingham Trent University, and Brunel University since 1994.

His research explores the intersections of media, culture, and society, with emphases on celebrity phenomena, leisure practices, and urban violence. Key themes include the commodification of attention, moral philosophy in modernity, and the societal impact of digital culture.

Rojek's recent publications examine figurational sociology in education, actuarial approaches to gang violence, and the philosophical underpinnings of celebrity. His work consistently critiques how media shapes identity and power structures in late capitalism.
