Dr. Chris Roberts is an Associate Professor in the Department of Journalism and Creative Media at the University of Alabama. He holds a PhD from the University of South Carolina (2007) and has extensive experience in journalism and media ethics. His roles include chairing the Media Planning Board for the Office of Student Media and serving on national committees such as the Society of Professional Journalists’ ethics committee and the AEJMC’s teaching committee.
His research focuses on media ethics, gatekeeping theory, and digital journalism. Notable work includes redefining the SPJ’s Code of Ethics (2014) and analyzing the role of blogs in media agenda-setting. He has been cited by major outlets like The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Roberts co-maintains DoingEthicsIn.Media, a resource tied to his textbook Doing Ethics in Media (2011).
He delivered the 10th Annual Last Lecture at the University of Alabama in 2016 and has contributed to discussions on media credibility and transparency, including studies on newspaper staff reductions and corporate earnings press releases.
